Accra, July 20, GNA — Prophet Samuel Addison, General Overseer of the Eagle House Chapel International, has called on Ghanaians to cultivate the habit of reading to enable them to broaden their skills for national development.
He expressed regret that many people spend a huge sums of money to buy books and after opening it for the first time put them on the shelves to gather dust.
Prophet Addison made the call at the launch of his book to commemorate his 40th birthday celebration in Accra on Sunday.
The book titled ‘From Trash to Treasure’ talks about how the Lord God Almighty raised someone from a poor home to become rich.
Prophet Addison said reading was the act of identifying various combination of words and linking them together in a usually comprehensive manner.
He said the subject of reading in our environment was closely associated with the work of Christian Missionaries in what became the Gold Coast, adding that Ghanaians had nevertheless grasped the opportunities opened to them through the medium of reading literacy and modern education.
“The ability of people to read is a measure of the level of the basic literacy, and foreign investors could use this as index of the investment potential of a country,” Prophet Addison said.
The General Overseer said reading was a key component in acquiring skills and urged students and up and coming young people to develop keen interest in reading.
Prophet Addison appealed to parents to encourage their wards to read and also provide them with the requisite platforms to expand their horizon.
He appealed to Christians to serve the Lord with all their heart and their strength so as to succeed in life.
