Bibiani (WN/R), 17 July, GNA – The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai, Mr Alfred Amoah, has distributed 35,000 oil palm seedlings to famers within the Municipality.
He said the support formed part of government’s flagship agricultural programme dubbed; Planting for Export and Rural Development (PERD) Programme and also to provide raw materials for the local industries in the area.
The MCE said the government was investing heavily in Planting for Food and Jobs, Planting for Rural Export and Rural Development programmes to encourage the youth to take up Agriculture as a business.
According to him, the Assembly had already distributed free coconut seedlings to some farmers earlier this year.
He said in addition, the Assembly also supported some animal farmers with chicks and piglets as part of the government’s Rearing for Food and Job program.
Mr Alfred Amoah was confident that with the numerous interventions, the Municipality was on course to achieve the vision of boosting Agriculture in the area.
He appealed to the beneficiary farmers to adhere to all the directives given by the Agricultural Extension Officers to improve upon the growth of the seedlings on their various farms to achieve the purpose of the programme.
He said the PERD would go a long way to eradicate poverty in rural areas and help lands degraded by illegal miners (galamsey) regained their fertility and good shape.
Mr Amoah urged the youth to take advantage of the government flagship programmes to better their lives in order to refrain from illegal mining activities.
The beneficiary farmers thanked the MCE and the government for the numerous support to farmers to lessen their burden.
