Kumasi, June 29, GNA – Two people have been confirmed with four sustaining gun wounds in a shooting incident at Ejura in the Ashanti Region, on Tuesday, June 29.
This was after some angry youth staged a demonstration in protest of the death of one Ibrahim Mohammed, alias Kaaka, who was reportedly attacked brutally while returning home on a motorbike on Saturday.
Mohammed, 45, according to a press release issued by the Ghana Police Service, was rushed to the Ejura Government Hospital, and later referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) after his attack.
Police report says he died on Monday at the Hospital, a development that incurred the displeasure of some youth at Ejura, leading to the protest.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Godwin Ahianyo, the Ashanti Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Kumasi, that two suspects, Ibrahim Issaka, alias Anyaas, and Fuseini Alhassan, had so far been arrested in connection with the alleged murder of Kaaka.
Confirming the shooting incident, the PRO said the Regional Police Command had begun investigations into the issue.
Ayuba Ibrahim, a youth activist at Ejura, in an interview with the GNA, said a combined military/police team who were at the scene of the demonstration started shooting indiscriminately, resulting in the death of the two people.
He alleged that the security instead of giving warning shots, aimed directly at the protesters, and that one of the deceased persons was shot in the head.
The two bodies, he said, had since been deposited at the morgue for autopsy, while the injured persons are receiving treatment at the hospital.
