Mr. Mark Okraku Mantey, the Deputy Minister-designate for Tourism, Arts and Culture has averred that theatrical works, both written and produced should be exported to other countries in order to make it a source of revenue for the country and the industry players.

He remarked during his vetting by Parliament’s Appointments Committee that supporting playwrights to tour other nations with their works brings in revenue not only for themselves but also for the government as well.
“Years ago we were here when Charterhouse brought Umoja to Ghana. We all went, appealed and Umoja had to come back for a second time. As they come, they are making foreign exchange, they are taking money away”, he said.
He said that this initiative will go a long way to assist the likes of Uncle Ebo Whyte and others who have their works played in the theatre tour other countries and on their return, they will bring foreign exchange.
“So if we are able to get a market for Uncle Ebo and co across the world and they decide to tour, by the time they are back we have some foreign exchange for the country,” he noted.
Recall, Mark Okraku Mantey appeared before the appointment committee of Parliament for his vetting for the Deputy Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture.
He was accompanied by some other industry players to support him in the process. The likes of Samini, Bullet of Rufftown Records, Wendy Shay, Akwasi Aboagye of Peace FM, Uncle Ebo Whyte and others were seen at the vetting on Tuesday.
