June 8 (UPI) — Firefighters in Wisconsin were called out for an unusual rescue when a swimming deer found itself trapped in a lock.
The De Pere Fire Department said crews were summoned to the Fox River boat lock when a deer was spotted swimming in the lock after apparently falling in.
The high walls of the lock left the deer without a path to swim back to shore, so fire crews opened one of the flood gates to allow the animal to swim out of the enclosed space.
The deer was then able to swim back to safety on its own, firefighters said.
