Jordan Ayew to captain Black Stars in Morocco friendly

Crystal Palace forward Jordan Ayew will lead the Black Stars in the absence of his brother and substantive captain Andre Dede Ayew in the game against Morocco on Tuesday.

The decision was made following the absence of the two deputy captains Thomas Partey and Richard Ofori for the game on Tuesday, June 8, 2021.

Black Stars coach Charles Kwabla Akonnor will be without two of his key players for this high-profile game which serves as preparations for the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.

Andre Ayew, Thomas Partey, and Richard Ofori did not join the team’s training camp in Cape Coast last week.

The Swansea City star despite joining the team for the trip to Morocco is not expected to start the game according to our sources.

Thomas Partey who joined the team’s camp on Friday was sacked by the head coach according to reports in the media.

Richard Ofori could not make the squad due to injury.

Jordan Ayew, who has been training with the team in Cape Coast is expected to lead the team on the field on Tuesday.

The Black Stars will play the Atlas Lions of Morocco in Rabat on June 8 before hosting the Elephants of Ivory Coast in Cape Coast on Saturday, June 12, 2021.

Meanwhile, FIFA has approved Ghana’s request to play an International friendly against the Elephants of Cote D’Ivoire subject to observing all COVID-19 protocols.

The two friendlies will serve as preparations for the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers which kick off in September.
