THE SPAIN-Ghana Chamber of Commerce has held its first networking event after a year of going on break due to the novel coronavirus.

President of the Spain-Ghana Chamber of Commerce, Nadim Ghanem Parés, in an interview with this paper, commented, “This year, our plans are yet to be structured although before the outbreak of the pandemic, we used to have some Spanish entourage visiting various firms and holding workshops, trade shows, exhibitions, among others. We are also proud to announce that La Liga which will be set up in Ghana will be joining the chamber as a member.”

Secretary General of the chamber, Belen Nieto Tercero, indicated that even though COVID-19 was a major contributory factor for halting their usual networking events, the chamber was poised  to hold some private events for only those involved, while the rest of their meetings would be virtual.

On events planned for the year, she said the chamber was contacting the European Union and other business associates to hold more webinars on the African Continental Free Trade Area for its members.

Deputy Spanish Ambassador to Ghana, Rafael Rodriguez Ponga, said it was necessary for Ghana and Spain to build a long-lasting relationship, hence a good idea to promote the ideals the chamber holds.

“Technology although has been beneficial, there is nothing like face-to-face contact and we need to recover that by being especially careful while working towards our mission assignment, but it is very good to be back and engage in face-to-face interactions,” the deputy Spanish Ambassador said.

Meanwhile, Miguel Higuera, Economic and Commercial Counselor of the Spanish Embassy hinted that although COVID-19 was still lingering, businesses and meetings had to continue and as such, all precautions should be observed as networking events have begun.

Executive Assistant Manager of the La Beach Hotel, David Eduaful, and member of the chamber, commended government for its efforts at helping to curb the spread of the virus.

The Spain-Ghana Chamber of Commerce (SGCC) is a private association which seeks to promote and increase bilateral relationships between Spain and Ghana while offering a wide range of services to support companies in both markets.
