Rapper Okyeame Kwame has revealed that he purposely released his ‘Yeeko’ hit song in January 2021 in order to bag awards next year without any stiff competition from any artiste.

He spoke on Kastle Drive on Kastle FM saying, ‘We finished recording Yeeko last year December but the only reason why we didn’t release the song for the Christmas celebrations is that we didn’t want to miss the VGMA calendar he said. GMA considers songs released from January to January then by January the song might not be a hit yet so we didn’t want to waste it because we saw Yeeko as a very good song, he added.

The ‘Rap Dacta’ further said that he planned with Kuami Eugene to release Yeeko’ this year in order to become a hit song and be ready to grab awards in 2022. He continued, ‘So we both decided that will wait and release the song in the first week of January so that it will have a whole year to develop and sweep some awards in 2022.

So that’s why we released the song in January but when the parliamentarians were fighting in Parliament we had already recorded and released the song; he ended.

In a related development, the honcho of the former serial hitmaking music duo Akatakyie, King Pharaoh has said in a new interview that the hardship most Ghanaian artistes go through makes it difficult for any of them to have the pedestal to clinch a global award such as the prestigious Grammys.

‘We have every opportunity as musicians in Ghana to grab Grammy Awards. But if I tell you the kind of suffering that most Ghanaian musicians are being subjected to, to even release just one song is quite serious, he fumed. Speaking on Cape Coast-based Kastle FM during an exclusive, King Pharaoh dropped this comment when the host of the show, Amansan Krakye asked him why he thinks no Ghanaian musician has ever won the Grammys.
