Many a time, a situation arises where there comes a need to access the router setting. For changing the settings of the router, one needs to access the device page present on the local network. Typically, it is done by simply entering the local IP address in the web browser followed by hitting Enter. However, there is no default or universal IP that all the routers can use. It is therefore advisable to note the IP address of the router when it is accessed for the first time. The question is how to find the router’s IP address again if you lose it? There are multiple ways through which one can access the router’s IP address on Windows 10.

Method 1: Finding the Router’s IP address via IPConfig

For finding the IP address of the router via IPConfig, you will first have to connect the router to your PC. Now, follow the steps given below to find the IP address.
1. Click the start button and type “cmd” and click “Command Prompt.”
2. Now on the on-screen console, type “ipconfig” and hit enter
Plenty of information will now appear on the screen, however, you won’t need them. Your eyes should be searching for the information that says “Default Gateway”. The numbers represented in front of it is your router’s IP address. Usually the default gateway will be 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1.

Method 2: Finding the Router’s IP address via Adapter Settings

Again for the second method, you need to connect your computer to the right router. After the connection is made, follow these steps:
1. In the taskbar, right-click on the Internet connection symbol and then click on “Open Network and Sharing Center”
2. Click on “View your basic network information and set up connections”
3. Now you need to look at the “View your active networks” section and then click on
“Connections”
4. Now a small pop-up will appear giving you the information about the active connection.
In this section, click on “Details”.
Remember how in the previous method we looked for the default gateway option which basically represents the device that connects your computer to a network? You now need to look at “IPv4 Default Gateway” option. The numbers present in front of this option is the IP address of your router.

Method 3: Finding the Router’s IP address via Search Engine

Mostly, routers of the same model typically use the same local IP address. Therefore, a door opens up to find the IP address of the router directly from the search engine. However, for this, you would need to know the model of the router. Open a browser and type as much information as you have about the router, followed by adding “ip address”. Check the different results available. You might find the IP address of the router in one of the many websites.

There is a fourth method to check the router’s IP address. However, you can only use if you haven’t thrown away the manual of the router. Most of the time, the manual of the router carries information about its IP address. You can check the manual to see if you can find any mention about the local IP address.

How to Use the IP Address?

Using any one of the above-mentioned methods, you will surely lay your hand on your router’s IP address. Now that you have it, it’s time for you to know how to use it. For using the IP address, open a browser and simply enter the IP address of the router in the address bar and hit search. The homepage for your router will now appear which might ask for the login details. If you have the login details, enter it to access the router’s setting.

Now you can access the setting of your router by finding its IP address even when you don’t have the original documents. A tricky situation will appear if along with the IP address, you have also forgotten the login details of the router too! Hopefully, that won’t be the case and you have a smooth way ahead to change the desired settings of the router. Let us know if you often forget the IP address of your router!
