Residents of Abeka Alafia in the Greater Accra region were on Saturday, May 16 2020, thrown into a state of shock when they woke up to see an eight-month-old foetus dumped in a gutter.
The lifeless body of the baby was found around 6:00 a.m. when an eyewitness went to dispose of dirty water.
The scene attracted onlookers who wanted to catch a glimpse of the dead baby. The onlookers who could not control their emotions rained insults and curses on the unknown mother.
An eyewitness told the Daily Heritage that the baby was fat when they first saw it in the morning but began to shrink, believing the woman who was pregnant with the baby might have drunk some poisonous substance to abort the foetus.
“I suspect some two ladies in this area so we are going to monitor them because we know the number of months of their pregnancies,” the eyewitness stated.
She added that if the police fail to investigate the incident, “we are going to monitor them ourselves for about three months and if we don’t see anything, we will drag them to the police.”
She advised women to always stay with one man because some men are so jealous that if they see you with another man and you go to tell them you are pregnant, they will not take responsibility.
She discounted the possibility that the incident might have happened somewhere and the running water might have dragged the baby to the area.
“I don’t think it happened somewhere because where it is, that is the place many people around pour their dirty water.”
As at the time of filing this report, the lifeless body of the baby was decomposing because nobody had taken it out of the gutter.
