The Deputy Spokesperson of the National Chief Imam and also a lecturer of the University of Applied Management, Ghana Campus, Sheikh Dr Mohammed Marzuq Abubakar is in Oxford University to deliver a paper on religious studies.
He has been invited by the Oxford University of the United Kingdom to deliver an academic paper orally at the Oxford Symposium on Religious Studies, Harris Manchester College and Oxford University from July 31to August 2, 2019.
Dr Abubakari was expected yesterday to deliver a paper titled “Religion and Education as Tools of Human Dignity and Civilization,” a statement issued by the office of the National Chief Imam, copied to the Ghanaian Times said.
He was expected to use that platform to showcase the Ghanaian culture of Peace and Tolerance, as being promoted by the National Chief Imam of Ghana.
He is being accompanied by Alhaji Khuzaima Mohammed Osman, the Personal Assistant (PA) to the National Chief Imam and the Executive Director of the Islamic Peace and Security Council of Ghana (IPASEC) together with some officials.
Dr Abubakar is the Director of Research and Development of the IPASEC, a regular columnist on some print media in Ghana and abroad and the brain behind the regular “literary discourse” on Myjoyonline.
“Dr Abubakar will certainly put GHANA on the World map again as the World faces and battles armies of cultural, racial and religious extremists and intolerance,” the statement said.
According to the statement, the IPASEC is proud to have one of its own members and indigene of a Zongo community delivering an academic paper at a prestigious and famous institution such as Oxford University before the gathering of top academic leaders and researchers in the World.
Former Presidents, John A. Kufuor, John D. Mahama and the current Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia made headlines in Ghana when they were invited to deliver speeches at Oxford University.
“We therefore find this very worthy of news to encourage and motivate the up and coming younger generations of the Ghanaian society, particularly the Zongo youth to aspire to achieve greatness in the world of academic field, research and shun the local mantra “Allah will provide” while doing nothing, the statement added.
The statement expressed appreciation to the Political Section of the British High Commission and the British High Commissioner to Ghana for the opportunity.
