The Chief of Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Area, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin II, is pushing for government to do more to promote decentralization of governance, as he believes the move will be one sure way to expand the economies of rural Ghana.

According to him, this will also check over population in the Greater Accra Region where the country’s capital is located.

Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin II urged government to draw a new decentralization plan that will see some Ministries being moved from Accra to rural Ghana.

“If we want to seriously believe that we can turn this country around, then we should take aggressive, radical changes in our country. What’s the Ministry of Lands and Forestry doing in Accra? I’ve challenged governments to move at least 10 Ministries into rural areas. The Ministry of Agriculture shouldn’t have been in Accra, The Ministry of Lands and Forestry should not be in Accra, the Ministry of Local Government should be somewhere else.

“If we move  10 Ministries in each rural regions, you’ll see this country change because people will begin to look for jobs where they are. We’ll begin to decongest Accra, there’ll be no homelessness here. But it takes courage and grit to make such moves and it takes people who believe in building infrastructure.”
