Parliament is expected to approve Martin Amidu as Ghana’s first Special Prosecutor today.

The House will consider the report of the Appointment Committee which has unanimously endorsed his nomination after his vetting.

The House is expected to endorse Mr Amidu’s nomination in spite of a suit filed by former Deputy Attorney General, Dr Dominic Ayine at the Supreme Court challenging the nomination, vetting and subsequent approval of Mr Amidu on the basis of his age.

He argued that by reason of the age of Martin Amidu who’s now 66 years he’s not qualified or eligible to hold that office as Ghana’s first ever Special Prosecutor under Section 13(3) of the Office of the Special Prosecutor Act, 2018 Act(959).

Mr Amidu went through a grueling nine (9) hour question and answer session at his vetting during which he answered questions about the office he’s to occupy and other related matters.
