SUPER Falcons top striker, Sweden-based Perpetua Nkwocha, is about to add another feather to her cap, as she has been nominated for the sports woman of the year award by the African Women Sports Reporters Unit (AWSRU). The award ceremony will take place on March 30, 2012 in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire.
Nkwocha has won the African Women Championship (AWC) title on four occasions and has been crowned African Women player of the year three times.
According to an official Lagos State Chapter of AWSRU, the award is packaged to celebrate Africa’s Women athletes, who have excelled in their different fields of sports.
Other female athletes penciled down for various award are Moroccan swimmer, Sarah El Bashir, Sonia Asselah (Algeria – Judo), Ocean Ganiero (Benin Republic- Karate), Martha Koala (Burkina Faso – Athletics), Rachel Irakoze (Burundi – Judo), Suzanne Kragbé (Côte d’Ivoire – Athletics) and Maria Mouegha Emergency (Gabon – Taekwondo).
Also listed are Isatou Nyang (Gambia – Paralympic Athletics), Vivian Cheruiyot (Kenya – Marathon), Djénébou Sissoko (Mali – Basketball), NKwocha Perpetua (Nigeria – Football), Isabelle Sambou (Senegal-Fight), Bolili Miambanzila (DRC-Taekwondo).
The Lagos State Chapter of AWSRU led Pepsie Ogechi Adiukwu is gearing up to be part of the award ceremony in Abidjan.
