He’s dated a string of the world’s most beautiful women.
But rumours about his sexuality have continued to follow George Clooney.
Now his sister Adelia Zeidler has set the record straight in her first ever interview – insisting her little brother not gay.
Asked what she makes of rumours that
her brother is secretly gay, the 52-year-old laughed and said: ‘Yes
that’s quite ridiculous, we don’t even listen when people say things
like that anymore.
‘I think he decided that in his
life he could have the career or he could have a family and so when he
decided to go full bore into the acting, that was where his focus was
going to be.’
He’s not gay! George Clooney’s older sister, Adelia Zeidler outside her home in Augusta,Kentucky; she has spoken out about her brother’s sexuality
In fact Ada revealed that George has found it easy to bag pretty girls since his high school days.
She said: ‘Well he had several
girlfriends when he was going to high school down here. Never more than
one at a time, he’s not that kind of guy.
‘But he would go out with
someone for a few months and then go out with someone else for a few
months.
‘He had longer hair in high
school, it was more blonde, it didn’t really get dark until he was about
16 or so. And he was always very funny and girls like to laugh.
They’ll never wed! George Clooney with his girlfriend Stacy Keibler
‘I think he was always pretty fair
and honest with the girls he went out with.
‘I don’t recall any of them
feeling as though he had just broken their heart and dumped them
unexpectedly, I think most of the relationships came to a kind of
natural close. I don’t recall any angry phone calls or anything like
that.’
But while she insists her brother is not gay, Adelia thinks it unlikely that he will marry his current girlfriend, Stacy Keibler.
Different lives: While George vacations in Italy and travels the world, his sister is a stay-at-home mom
Speaking from her home in Augusta, Kentucky, where they grew up, Adelia said: ‘No I would say he probably will not get married.
‘If
I had to guess I would have to say no. I know everyone says “well
Warren Beatty said he’d never get married and then he met Annette
Bening” but you know that’s the only example people can think of, so it
doesn’t bode too well.’
George was once married to actress Talia Balsam but the two divorced in 1993.
Family man: George keeps in close contact with his family, including mother NIna, left and his sister
Since
then he’s had a string of gorgeous girlfriends including British model
Lisa Snowdon, Italian beauty Elisabetta Canalis and currently Stacy – a
stunning blonde actress and former wrestler.
Explaining
her logic, Adelia, who goes by Ada, added: ‘If he was going to get
married he would want to be a husband and be somebody who would be
there, who would have the time and the ability to focus on the family
and the wife and the home and all of that.
‘And
in the business that he is in he has to be able to get up and go. The
majority of actors don’t really make their marriages work.’
Sweeping away the cobwebs: Clooney’s mother Nina cleans a house
In fact Ada thinks for that same reason George, 51, will also never have children.
She
explained: ‘If he had children, when he was with them he would be
concerned about his career and if he was working he would be concerned
about the children and he doesn’t think it would be fair to split his
focus.’
Recalling his first wedding, Ada confesses George didn’t even tell her he was married until after it happened.
She said: ‘No I didn’t go. Yes it was [a quick thing]. I was not aware he was married until after he was married.
‘I knew that they were thinking of it and all of that, but I believe the actual timing was a quick decision.’
A different world: George’s sister drives an old Volvo car and lives in a tiny village a few doors down from their parents
Asked if their parents Nick and
Nina – who also live in Augusta down the road from Ada –Â long for
George to tie the knot again, Ada added: ‘They think it’s his own
business.
‘None of us worry or wonder too much about it, he either will or he won’t. If we had to guess we’d say no.’
Even though George and Ada were born
just one year and four days apart – it would be almost impossible to
guess that they are brother and sister now. In fact she couldn’t be more
different from the well-groomed A-lister.
The
full-time mum sports a rather unkempt appearance as she goes about her
daily chores cleaning her home, feeding the children and giving them
lifts in a battered old 80s-style Volvo with a broken headlight.
Welcome to Augusta! Clooney’s family still live in the tiny town where he was raised, with a population of 2000
However the mother-of-two did find it very strange when her brother was crowned World’s Sexiest Man by People magazine.
She said: ‘It is rather odd to see my baby brother being touted as the World’s Sexiest man – I have a little difficulty seeing that. Granted I can look at him and see he’s very attractive but of course being his sister it’s a little odd.
‘I think he rather enjoyed getting teased about it (by the family).’
George and Ada’s aunt was the famous
American singer and actress Rosemary Clooney and their dad Nick was a TV
news anchorman– so showbusiness was very much in their blood.
And
although both siblings took an early interest in acting, appearing in
many school plays, it was George who decided to take the gamble and go
off to Hollywood to follow his dreams.
Meanwhile
Ada got married and had two children –Â Jennifer, now 21, and Nicholas,
now 16 – while holding down different bookkeeping jobs.
Small town life: The store owned by George Clooneys mother, Nina
Her cheeky younger brother used to tease her about wanting to be like June Cleaver, a 1950s sitcom character seen as the archetypal suburban mum.
She said: ‘I worked at Toys R Us and Kohl’s. I enjoyed it, but mostly it was a way to get the money to come home and pay the rent and those sorts of things. I really enjoyed being a wife and a mother and that kind of wound up taking precedence with me.’
Tragically Ada’s husband Norman, an artist, died suddenly of a heart attack in 2004 aged just 47 and she had to quit work to look after the children full time.
