Calm returns to Yendi as security forces continue patrol to prevent further clashes

Calm has returned to Yendi in the Northern region as security forces continue their patrol in the area to prevent further clashes.

One person is reported dead from Friday’s chieftaincy clashes in the town. The clashes were triggered by an enskinment ceremony that angered a rival faction.

Correspondent Clement Boateng told Joy News the body of 20-year old Abass, who died from the clashes, was buried Saturday afternoon.

Clement narrated that, “during the shooting incident, he met a stray bullet and sustained some injuries in the head. He was rushed to the Tamale Teaching Hospital and died out of it.”

Northern Regional Police Commander, ACP George Tuffuor also told Joy News that security presence in the town would be maintained a while longer.

According to him, no other lives were lost, adding, “There is no condition there to let me say the situation is bad. The situation there is very calm, the situation, [however], is still fragile there for that reason we have to [still] monitor it …”
