Boca Juniors Football Club of Serekunda London Corner Saturday embarked on a massive cleaning exercise in the locality.

The main idea behind the unprecedented move by the club is to compliment the work of the Kanifing Municipal Council and the National Environment Agency whose main concern is to see the environment clean. The president of the club, Pierre Minteh told this reporter that the rainy season will soon begin and in order to reduce the risk of malaria, they have to keep the environment clean. He said they were motivated by the KMC fans club who are engaged in different social activities including environmental sanitation.

Minteh stated that this is the first time the club is engaged in such activity, and assured that they are ready to take up the challenge during the monthly cleaning exercise. He further assured that they will be cleaning their surrounding every two weeks.

For his part, Alexandra Pereira, the coach of the club explained the importance of a clean environment, adding that the exercise was also meant to help their parents, seek blessings and to gain popularity in the community with the local summer football jamboree (Nawetan) set to start.

He said that their responsibility is not only about being excellent in the football pitch, but also to take part in social activities for the betterment of the nation. “Though this is the first time the club is doing such, but it came with much appreciation from the community as they also helped,” he stated. Alexandra also assured of more plans for the community and urged youths to take part in positive activities.
