Maiduguri — Another bomb explosion yesterday rocked the ancient city of Maidugiri injuring three policemen and two soldiers.

The incident which took place on Lagos Street was suspected to have been planted by members of the notorious Boko Haram sect.

Speaking to the press at the commissioner’s office, the Assistant Commissioner in-charge of Operations, Zakari Adamu said four suspects have been arrested in connection with an earlier attack on Ibrahim Taiwo estate police station, where members of the Boko Haram sect had launched an attack on Wednesday night.

He said the police have not made any arrest in connection with the bomb blast, but efforts are on to comb the neighborhood in order to fish out the perpetrator of these dastardly acts.

ACP Zakari Adamu said the Operation Flush II vehicle was on its way to its duty post when the bomb exploded, leading to the injury of five security operatives. He said these have led the police to believe the explosive had been planted before the arrival of the vehicle, adding that any vehicle which steps on it could have exploded.

On the attack on Ibrahim Taiwo Estate police station, he said the perpetrators had gone to the station in three Golf cars and started attacking the station, before being over powered by superior police fire power, which made them to flee.

Assistant Commissioner also said the police pursued the fleeing attackers and succeeded in arresting four without death or injury.

In his own comments concerning the two incidents, the Borno state commissioner of police, Alhaji Mohammed Jinjiri Abubakar expressed disbelief on whether the attacks will stop with the coming of a new government.

Considering the bold steps the perpetrators of these evil acts have taken going by the recent happenings, it seems they would stop at nothing to achieve their set goals.

Cp Jinjiri urged the press not to publicize the activities of the Boko Haram, because according to him “publicizing their activities would give them undue prominence”.
