Aston Villa midfielder Robert Pires has revealed that he has received an offer to ply his trade in Australia.

The 37-year-old’s current deal at Villa Park runs out at the end of the season, and he had previously expressed hope of earning a new contract at the Birmingham club.

But having made only four appearances for the club since the New Year, the former Arsenal midfielder has admitted that he has considered the possibility of hanging up his boots at the end of the season, although he would be willing to evaluate “interesting” offers from abroad as well.

“I’m prepared to retire in May if that’s what it comes to,” Pires told Fifa.com, “but I am also ready to go wherever an interesting proposition comes from, be it Qatar or the US. I’ve even had an offer from Australia.

“I’m still playing in the Premier League so I get noticed. People haven’t forgotten about me. Anyway, one thing at a time. I’ll look at that at the end of the season.”
