Ajax Cape Town’s Cecil Lolo says that he is happy to adjust to any role coach Maarten Stekelenburg gives him by saying: “I am a team player”.

The 23-year-old has recently found himself getting more time with the matchday squad, where he has stepped in for the injured Thulani Hlatshwayo.

“I am feeling very happy and good with myself. So far everything is going well,” noted the right-back.

“I have been work hard and I have been training with a lot of determination. The players and the coach have pushed me and lifted my spirit up, which has helped me push for more game time.”

The number 21 first started off his career as a striker, before moving onto the right wing, but has since been featured as right back under his Dutch coach.

When asked how he had come to find himself in such a change of scenery, the player confirmed that it is his team spirit and his willingness to work for the team that has allowed him to try different positions.

“This is football and I don’t complain as a player, you have to adjust and listen to the coach.

“I am a team player. I listen and I try to adjust to what the coach says. It did take me some time but I am used to it. You make mistakes and you learn from it.”

Lolo also confirmed he would be happy to slot into any position that is required of him.

“I like right back and I am ok at right back but I used to love playing in midfield and to score some goals too. But I will play anywhere with no problem.”
