Africa: Accra Readies for 2011 CAF Awards

    The Ghanaian capital, Accra, is reading up to stage the 2011 CAF Awards. The ceremony scheduled for Thursday, December 22, 2011 is to reward achievers in African football from players, officials and administrators for the year under review.

    The euphoria has reached fever-pitched with the event being the talk of town within the biggest city in the ancient Gold Coast. The city is already agog with excitement as it prepares to host the annual awards for the third time in six years.

    The venue for the coronation of the ‘King’ and ‘Queen’ of African football is the Banquet Hall, State House in Accra. The plush venue’s familiarity with the event dates back to 2009, when it played host to the luminaries of the sport of the globular leather as far as the continent is concerned.

    In the build-up to the Awards Gala, the venue has witnessed massive transformation and conditioning to meet the demands of guests. True Colour Events, the South Africa-based event organizing firm are working feverishly to meet the deadline having promised an explosive ceremony that will last in the minds of all.

    Ahead of the main event, a delegation from by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) led by 2nd Vice President, Almamy Kabele Camara arrived on Monday (December 19) to team up with sponsors, Globacom, towards the organisation of a successful event. CAF General Secretary, Hicham El Amrani is also around.

    The green and white colours of Globacom are the dominant colours at the venue of the Awards Gala. When the CAF team toured the venue on Monday afternoon, the organizers were zealously fixing the stadium, technicians on the lighting likewise sound and video.

    The organisers are already teasing that quests will be left in awe on the day of the ceremony with programme filled rich display of culture, acrobatics and musical performance.

    “We are on working feverishly towards the plan. We are on course and will deliver a show that will last forever in the minds of the guests. We are promising a display of celebrating the finest of African football,” said Bobby Scott, Chief Executive of True Colours Events.

    A number of Ghanaian and international artiste will headline the musical acts at the Awards Gala notable amongst them Kwabena Kwabena, a local hi-life musician and young songstress, Efya, both from Ghana.

    Also billed to perform is Beninois Zeynab and South African duo, Gloria Bosman and Loyiso Bala. Acrobatic tumbling group, ‘Troop Agile’ from Kenya will also be in attendance.
