Hundreds of youths from Bakau Sunday held a mass political rally at the town’s bantaba to express their support for the Gambian leader and the ruling APRC.
The youths used the occasion to reaffirm their commitment and support to the APRC, and urged the president not to go for any political campaign as promised, assuring that there will be a 95% victory for him and the APRC at the polls. The rally, which generated huge interest among elders and politicians across the political spectrum in Bakau, also provided a platform for the youths to highlight some of the most significant roles they can play in the forthcoming presidential election.
Speaking at the rally, the alkalo of Bakau, Luntading Jaiteh, reminded the youths about the 95% victory target set for the APRC in the forthcoming presidential election. He told them that this target cannot be attained if people sit in their homes and fail to come out and vote. He further reminded the people of Bakau, especially the youths, that the coming presidential election and other elections will indicate the difference between those who want development and those who do not need development. He finally called on the youths to unite and prepare themselves for the future.
Kaddy Bah, the constituency youth mobiliser enlightened the gathering on the important positions many Bakau youths are currently holding in the APRC government. She urged the youths of Bakau to stand firm in supporting the ruling APRC, describing President Jammeh as someone who has enormous love for Bakau and its people. Abdoulie M Jallow, the constituency secretary, KMC, told the youths that they are important to the president and the APRC. He also revealed that a youth solidarity [organisation] will be formed in every constituency to ensure that the 95% victory target for the APRC is attained in the elections.
Aja Fatou Fullanding, the nominated councilor in KMC declared that change has finally come to Bakau, and promised that it would be a continuous process. She also predicted a landslide victory for the Gambian leader in the election, and called on the youths of Bakau to reunite and vote for development. Alhaji Sosseh Colley, APRC’s divisional mobiliser and Alagie Bahoum, councilor for Bakau Newtown Ward, all hailed the youths for the mobilization, describing the move as unprecedented in Bakau. They also hailed Rambo’s achievements in the town and noted that the barrier has been lifted, paving the way for a smooth victory for the APRC.
