Lugogo — Kenyan clubs Kartunah B and Kartrinah completed the festive weekend in dominant style after scooping the respective men and women trophies of the annual Easter Hockey Cup at the Lugogo astro-turf pitch on Easter Sunday.

A fair crowd watched in dismay as Kartrinah’s Christabelle Mtele scored the solitary goal of the tense women’s final to down crowd favourites and defending champions Weatherhead 1-0. And with the Ugandan fans hoping for the last laugh, Kartunah B’s Boniface Petro ensured it was double joy for the Kenyans when his 14th minute shot raced past Wanainchi custodian Alex Edema to ensure the visitors bagged both titles.

Earlier in the men’s semifinals, Kartunah B shocked their senior side Kartunah A 1-0 while Thomas Opio, Derrick Akuwa and Franco Yoningoni converted their penalties as Wanainchi kept their title defence hopes intact with a 3-2 postmatch penalties win over Weatherhead. A total of 11 teams took part with two foreign sides.

Results – men’s final

Wanainchi 0-1 Kartunah B

Ladies final

Weatherhead 0-1 Kartrinah

Men’s semifinal

Kartunah A 0-1 Kartunah B

Wanainchi (3) 0-0 (2) Weatherhead
