Sugar Ray Leonard has spoken about his forthcoming appearance on Dancing With The Stars, saying he wants to ‘prove his family wrong’.

Sugar Ray Leonard, the American boxing legend, says he is “excited” to begin work on Dancing With The Stars when the series returns in three weeks’ time, reports OnTheRedCarpet.com.
Leonard was the surprise name when the new cast was revealed on Monday (28th February 2011) but the 54-year-old says he’s eager to get onto the dance-floor, saying, “I’m so excited. I think when I met my dance partner and when I came here to meet the cast, that’s when I knew that it’s going to happen. It’s no turning back now”. Leonard, who retired from boxing in 1997, says his wife attempted to dissuade him from appearing on the show, saying, “She said you know Ray, you can’t. You can’t ’cause you can’t dance. And then my kids say ‘Papa don’t embarrass me. So I’m gonna prove them wrong”. Series twelve of the show is set to get underway on 21st March 2011 with the first results showing airing one week later, on 29th March 2011.

Sugar Ray Leonard is set to be joined by the likes of Kendra Wilkinson, Kirstie Alley and Ralph Macchio on the show. ‘Sports Illustrated’ model Petra Nemcova looks to be the early favourite.
