Some children of cocoa farmers at Bipoa, a cocoa growing community in the Ashanti region have received 765 bicycles and other educational materials as motivation to stay in the classroom.

The presentation is to relieve the school children of the stress of having to travel long distances to school on foot.

The donation was made by the Kuapa Kokoo Farmers Union and KRAFT Canada, a subsidiary of the Cadbury Cocoa Partnership Programme.

Head of Kraft Canada, Aditi Burman says the launch of the bicycle project is the second the organization has undertaken in the last two years.

According to her, Kraft Canada has a mission to donate 3,000 bicycles to cocoa growing communities in Ghana to promote education.

She noted that bicycles play a vital role in the educational sector since they make it easier for children to get to school on time to take part in school activities.

The project would be repeated annually in order to solve some of the challenges rural children encounter in accessing education.

Executive Director of the Kuapa Kokoo Farmers Union Emmanuel, Kwabena Arthur commended Kraft Canada and Cadbury for supporting members of the union with the bicycles.

He told Luv FM that the presentation forms part of the Union’s anti-child labour programme to encourage farmers to send their children to school.
