Sunderland are favourites to land Inter midfielder Sulley Muntari according to the player’s agent.
The Black Cats are looking to strengthen their push for European football by adding more midfielders to their ranks, after injuries to Lee Cattermole and David Meyler left them somewhat depleted.
It is believed they have made a loan bid for Muntari with a view to a potential permanent deal in the summer if he impresses on Wearside.
The former Portsmouth man suggested earlier in the month that he would move to England if he could play in London.
However, his agent Fabien Piveteau has told skysports.com that Sunderland are favourites to land the midfielder’s signature.
Reports in Italy suggested other clubs such as Tottenham, Liverpool and Everton were interested in the Ghanaian international however Piveteau claims this is inaccurate.
Indeed Piveteau insisted that there were only two clubs interested in his client: “There is just Sunderland and West Ham, nobody else is in for him.”
He also rubbished claims that Muntari preferred a move to the capital, adding: “That is not true, indeed if everything is sorted out with Sunderland he will be going there.
“We hope to have everything sorted shortly, maybe by Tuesday.
“He knows Sunderland is a good club, possibly not the biggest but he wants to be playing football.
“The other Ghana players at Sunderland have told him about the club which has obviously played a part.”
Muntari has become unhappy at San Siro after falling out-of-favour, something that is reflected in his current Castrol Ranking of 1562.
